English Language Challenges

Hello everyone, today I will talk about my experience learning English, using English in my real life, among others things.

At present, my relation with English is very incompatible, because I just learn the language in the University because is a requirement in my career. When I was younger, in high school, I always think in take a special course for learning English, but now, at present I don't like to much the idea of learning English, in the University I feel like is an extra responsibility and as it's an obligation I just learn the necessary for pass the course. I think that if I did not have so many subjects in the semester I would feel more interested for the course. 

About the use of the blogs I can say that I like to write about different topics, but sometimes, with some topics that I don' like, I don't know what can I say, so it becomes a challenge for me. But in general, the experience of the blogs I like it, because I can develop my writing skills in English.

I think that in general there are two aspects that I have to improve, first of all, my pronunciation, because the words basic is easy for me pronounce, but with words used with infrequently my pronunciation sucks. And the other thing that I have to improve is my grammar, because I forget things that it should be easy to remember, like the past tense, preterite perfect and others. I think that watch series in English and without subtitles it can be a good idea for improve my English.

In my normal life, and a few opportunities use the English, for example when I learn news about singers or band musical that I like, or when I read tweets, also when I watch series and when I listen music in English.

Changes In My Study Programme

Hello everyone, today I will talk about what changes I will do in my study programme if I had the opportunity to do it.

First of all, I must say that I think that studying chemistry and pharmacy is a great challenge due to the academic training that is received.

All semesters we have at least six subjects to pass, if we want to go up to date and not fall behind. Many of the students finance the race through credits or scholarships assigned by the state, which sometimes only serve for the theoretical duration of the degree, that is, without failing any subject, which is very difficult to happen due to the academic overload mentioned above in each semester that we must take.

Therefore, I think the semesters should have less academic overload, perhaps eliminating some subjects that are considered "filling" and are not necessary for training as professionals we need.

In relation to the use of technology, I think it is something indispensable in today's society, before the study was based almost entirely on books because the internet was something unknown, but now the internet makes the student's life much easier, if before It took thirty minutes to find the right book to study something specific, now that time was reduced to a one click.

And finally, if we talk about the methodology used by teachers, I think there is always the possibility of improving it, because for example some teachers come to the classroom and only read what is written on a slide and forget about express and explain what they want to say. Of course, this happens only with some teachers, because we must also highlight those teachers who teach very well and it is nice to go to their classes.

Summer Holidays

Well, I think all people enjoy summer holidays doing different activities. All years in my summer holidays I travel with my family to different places, like Lago Rapel, Valdivia, Frutillar, among others. But, this summer holidays I plane do it something different.
Fernanda, Pia and Camila are my friends since high school and this year we want to travel some place together in our summer vacations. In the beginning we planned travel to Peru, specifically Machu Picchu, but after thinking better we decided travel to some place in Chile, still we don't decided a specifically place because we have different preferences for visit, for example Fernanda and I want to visit the South of Chile and Pia and Camila want to visit the North.

If we decided travel to the south probably we visit Chiloe or Pucon and we will rent a hut for stay one week. And if we decided travel to the north we will visit "San Pedro de Atacama" and surrounding places and we will rent a guesthouse or we can stay in a Hotel, it all depends how much money we have.
The money is a thing really important for summer holidays because if we don't have money we can't travel, in my case I plan have a job in January and with these money pay my summer holidays and if the money isn't enough I can ask to my mom for some extra money, but only if is really necessary. My friends plan do it the same, work for a month for pay the vacations.
This will be my first time travel with my friends to somewhere (without counting the school travel), so I hope that it works.       

Drug of abuse

The alcohol is a drug of abuse that is very common in any country, the most people star to drink alcohol when is teenager, even when is prohibited for people under the age of 18 or 21. In Chile, for example the alcohol is prohibited for people under the age of 18.

In majority, people drink alcohol for have some fun and forget the problems of the real life, but is complicated when people star to depend of the drug and drink alcohol is become in a habit, these people are called alcoholic, because they development a dependency, anxiety for alcohol. 

In my experience, sometimes I drink alcohol with my family in reunions or with my friends in our free time or in parties.

The alcohol have many observable effects in people, for example, slurred speech, blurred vision, lose self-control, development violence against other people, lose conscience, etc. Is for that reasons that alcoholism is very dangerous for people, and also for health of people. For example, in women that are pregnant the alcohol is prohibited, because affect the baby and it can produced genetic malformation, trouble with fine motor skill, learning difficulties, etc.

But, we have to know that the alcohol also have benefits for our health. A cup of wine in lunch  always is recommended by Doctors, because help to prevent cardiovascular diseases, improvement physical performance and others things.     

In my life a knew a people that suffer alcoholism, it was the uncle of one of my classmate in high school, and is very complicated for the family in general, because they try to help their uncle, but he don't wanna be helped. In these case, you can't do much.

Post Graduate Studies

At present, sometimes study one career is not enough, because in work field, the people who study Master, Diplomas or PhD are people that have the best opportunities in work.

I think that Diplomas, Master and PhD are a really good way to specialize in one topic of the career.

In a future, when I finished my career I like to study a Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, because I feel really interesting in learn all about Pharmaceutical Sciences, this field is very attractive for me.

The Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences have like purpose the development of pharmaceutical sciences in a excellence level. The requirements for do the Master are have the Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and take an admission test and a interview.

The study plan of the Master consist in take different courses, some are obligatory and others are elective, and also do it a individual thesis and take a grade test. The Master are two years of study.

I like to study this Master here in Chile, because the programme of study that University of Chile offer is really complete and challenging, and after that, maybe go to other country outside of Chile for live new experiences in the field work. Specially I would like to go a country the language English, because I like to learn this language.    

My hobbies

Well, one of my hobbies since I was a child is read, no matter who is the author or topic of the book, I always give a chance to any new books that I bought, or someone give me or just because I want to know a new world. I can say that I practice the phrase "never judge a book by the cover". But obviously there are topics in the literature that I enjoy more than others, like novels of romance, mystery, science fiction and adventures. 

I started to read when I was a child and I ask for books in the public library of my city, the first books that I ask for It was "Papelucho", I love all the books of Papelucho.

These days, with the university and all the tests that we have, I don't have so much time for read and I miss the vacations days when I could read and enjoy a book all the time I wanted.

Besides, other thing that I love to do is watch series, Game of Thrones is one of my favourites series and one day I hope can read the books too, but also I enjoy the superheros series, now I  watch two series "The Flash" and "Arrow" and if anyone likes superheros, I recommend these series. I enjoy watch series because is relaxing and it help me to forget all my obligations in the university and in the life in general.

One hobby that I had when I was a child it was collected magazines of my favourite artist, like Demi Lovato or Jonas Brothers. Every months I ask for money to my mom for buy one magazine and sometimes I bought two magazines, with the time I collected about one hundred magazines that today I keep in the garage of my home.

A hobby that I would never have is practice swimming, because I scare the ocean.

Organ of our body

I think that heart is one of the most important organs in our body, simply because without him, nobody can live, besides heart is a organ connected with emotions and I am a person very emotional.
Heart is a muscular organ of our body, which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory sistem. Blood provides the body with oxygen and nutrients.
The location of heart is between the lungs, in the middle compartment of the chest, exactly is situated in the middle mediastinum, at the level of thoracic vertebrae T5-T8. A double membraned sac called the pericardium sorrounds the heart  and attaches to the mediastinum.
Is form for four chambers, two upper atria, the receiving chambers, and two lower ventricles, the discharging chambers. The atria open into the ventricles via the atrioventricular septum. Also has four valves, wich separate its chambers, one valve lies between each atrium and ventricle and one valve rests at the exit of each ventricle.
In average the heart in a adult size twelve centimeters of long, nine centimeters of width and six centemeters of thickness and it is true that our heart is the size of our hand in fist.
I see our heart that I wonderful organ that allows us to stay alive every day.

My best concert ever

For me is easy choice my favourite concert, because it was when I was younger, I was twelve in 2010 and I went to concert of Jonas Brothers, It was my favourite band. The concert it was in Santiago, at "Estadio Monumental" on November 4.

The Jonas Brothers was a boy-bands that sang pop music, the band has eleven members, between guitarist, drummer, bass player, but normal people only meeting the three brothers Joe, Kevin and Nick that were the visible face of the band. They, were famous for act in Disney Channel movie named Camp Rock with co-star Demi Lovato, in this movie they represent a band of brothers, so original.. After this, they jump to fame. 

In 2013 they broke up and nowadays Kevin is father of two beautiful girls, Nick is a soloist singer and Joe (my favourite) create your own band named "DNCE" and their music still feel great for me.

This concert is the best for me, because first of all, it was my first concert in my all life, in the moment that happen I really wanted to meet the band and I was a teenager with  my crazy hormones. 

The atmosphere during the event it was incredible, all girls (in majority) sang the songs, the band it was awesome because besides sing, they played their own instruments and I almost fainted for the emotion.

This year, on November 28 I'll go to concert of Bruno Mars and "DNCE", the band of Joe, it will be there like artist guess, so I excited for this concert...  

Since I was a child I wanted to visit USA because of my favourite band, Jonas Brothers when I was ten. Now, nine years later I still would like to visit USA, but not only because the band that I like lived here, because of various reasons, like meeting people of different culture, learning another language (English), visiting iconic cities like New York, Las Vegas, Hollywood, etc. and I could write endless reasons.

I always thought that USA is a country that I must visit, because is world power, not just in economy, also in turism, for example if I had the opportunity I would visit  Disneyland, I think all child in their infancy wanted to visit this park. 

In the future, after finishing my career I would like to have the chance to work in USA, I think that it will be a great experience with much learning, because USA is a example to follow in the field of science.   

I know that in real life many things are really difficult to do, but I think that if we really want to do something with pasion, there is nothing that should stop us, for example for me, visit USA is something that no matter how, I would do it someday...

My blogging Experience

In my opinion writing the blogs for me was really fun, because I could talk about different things that I like and also I knew people with my same preferences. The bad thing, was when we had to write about some topics that I don't like and I didn't know what to write, for example in the post six, even we had two options to choose, but I didn't like any option, I think that that post was the most difficult for me.
One idea that I feel it will be really interesting could be write one post an free topic. Why these can be fun? Because it will be a way to express ourselves, and share with our classmates something important for us, or something that really really fascinates me, or maybe whatever that we are thinking in the moment.    
To finish, also I like to say that even when the experience of writing the blogs for me it was fun, sometimes it was a little difficult for me, because we had to write in another language, and it's not easy to express our ideas in another language. Besides, personally talking or writing in English is not "my thing" I really prefer the Spanish. But in general, the complete experience it was very useful to me, because I could progress my way to write in English.  

A Subject you enjoy studying this semester

Hello, today I will talk about my favourite subject this semester, it's  Organic Chemistry Laboratory and it's a practical class. In this subject we work synthesizing organic compounds using different chemical techniques for example, distilling, straining, recrystallizing, among others. After we get the new chemical compound we have to measure the quantity that we get, calculate its experimental melting point and the real percent of the reaction. We use all this information to complete the reports of the class.
The main contents that I've seen in this subject are organic chemistry, like alkanes. Alkenes and alkins. This subject is my favourite because I love working in laboratory, it seems to me very interesting to synthesize compounds and make chemical techniques. So far my favourite class was when we synthesizet acetylsalicylic acid because it was the first drug that we got.
 I chose this subject because the schedule was very comfortable for me, besides I haven't met any teachers of this subject, all of them were new for me.
The only thing that I would change to this subject is the semester in which we have to take it, because in this semester we also have Organic Chemistry that is the theoretical subject and the base for Organic Chemistry Laboratory and it's a bad idea to  have these two subjects in the same semester because in the first class of laboratory we don't know what to do because we don't know the theory.  

A career-related website that I visit

Well, I will show you a website that is very useful to me and also can be very useful for everyone (especially if you study something related with science), is named PubChem, the link is here https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/. This website is a specialized database in the area of chemistry, in this page we can found around 90.000.000 chemical compounds with his chemical form, molar mass, density, etc. In general, it shows us all the physical and chemical characteristics of chemical compounds. This website I started to use only this year, because I needed a page that I had information about chemical compounds for my reports of Organic Chemistry Laboratory, in all my reports I need the chemical form of the compound, the melting point, boiling point, density and molar mass, and all this information I can found in one page, for this is a like so much this website because is awesome and makes my homework easier. I check this page at least one time for week and I hope that can be useful for somebody.

Favourites movies/ tv shows

Well, I'm a fan of watching movies or series in my free time, it's one of my favourite hobbies and my preferences are very different, if I talk about the series that I like to watch I could say that I enjoy topics like romance, drama, comedy and of course science fiction. One of the first series that I watched when I was a teenager was "Glee", a comedy series that was about a musical club in which students of "William McKinley High School"participate . It was a great series, but sadly one of the principal actors, Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson on the series) died in 2013 and after that, the series was not the same.
These days, I'm watching superheroes series, in particular "Arrow" and "The Flash", the first is about a millionaire-playboy, named Oliver Queen who had to live five years on a island, and when he returned to his city, Starling City, he became in a superhero with a green hood and throws arrows.

The other series "The flash" is about a man named Barry Allen who is hit by a lightning, and after that he has the superpower of the super speed.

One of the things that I like so much is when there is crossovers between both series, these episodes are the best.

Well, and other series that also like so much are GOT ( I saw the trailer of season six and I can't wait for July 16th #TeamStark ), and also I started to watch Sense8, a series of Netflix that I really recommend you.

My favourite picture

Is very hard to me choose  only one favourite picture, because i'm glad to say that i've had so many beautiful moments and experiences in my life that i love to remember. But one picture that represent one of the most happiest moments in my life it would be this...

This picture is very special to me because I love travel and to know the world and this photo represent the first time that I travel out of Chile. It was a wonderful trip to Brazil, Paraguay and also Argentina. In the background of the photo you can see the "Iguazu Falls" one of the seven wonders of the world, that personally I could verify that deserves the title of wonder. The picture it was taken by my friend Sofia in our study tour, and I love to remember all the things that happened in this trip and all the experiences that I lived.

My favourite pieces of technology

No doubt my favorite technological device is my smartphone, I think that smartphones chanced our lives, made it more easy and comfortable, with them we can pay the bills without the need to do a row or buy things for internet, also the smartphones can do things more fun like play games, chat with our friends and listen to music.

I believe that if we use in a good way our smartphones serve to improve our lives, but unfortunately there are people who abuse this technology and leave out many more important things, like spend time with the family or friends.

In general besides my smartphone, there are few technological devices that I use, the notebook, tablet and ipod, but none of them can replace my smartphone, I use my smartphone every day of my life.

I couldn't live without my smartphone!!

Why Chemistry and Pharmacy?

Hi everyone!!

When I was a little girl, I dreamed with so many careers, that when I remember my choices, make me laugh so much, for example, I wanted to be a teacher, a doctor, a businesswoman, among others. But when I was in high school, I started to thinking in real options of job for my future. Always, my interesting were about science, but for a while I thought to study commercial engineering, but with the time, I discovered that maths it not "my thing".

Other thing important to me and it help me to decide mi career, it was help other people, when I chose my career I thought, "can help people with this?" And my answer it was yes!. Maybe are asking ( or not ) why don't chose another career of health, like medicine, nurse, odontology, whatever, well, the answer is very simple, the blood, syringes, surgeries and all those things, I don´t like it, and I feel a kind of fear respect that.

Well, finally my choose of Chemistry and Pharmacy happen when I went to a kind of exposition about the career in this faculty, that day I can talk with students of pharmacy, and asking all my doubts.

Till the moment, in this first year of the career, I feel very happy about my choice and I don't regret.

            

Autobiography

Hi everyone!

My name is Daniela Alejandra Pino Maldonado, I was born on June 25th 1998, in the city of Santa Cruz, sixth region. I'm only daughter, and my parents are Ana Maldonado and Mauricio Pino. I studied the primary in Paredones, at Mercedes Urzua Diaz school. Then, for high school, mi mom decided change me of school and I started to study in Santa Cruz, at Liceo Maria Auxiliadora.
During the last year of high school, in 2015, I had to learn my preferences and things that I like, because I had to decide what study at University. Finally, I decide study Chemistry and Pharmacy, at University of Chile. Currently I'm curse the third semester of the career.

My family is little, we are 3 members, mi mom, my grandmother Filomena and I, and we are a united family. In this moment, I can say that I don't live with them, because I study in Santiago, so I had to move here with two friends, but I try go to my home every weekend, because I miss them so much.

In my free time, I love watch movies, series (especially Game of Thrones) and read books of everything, but in particular about science fiction, mystery and romance. Also with mi mom we love the flowers and we have a tradition, once a month we buy a new flower for the house.
I don't like take me photos so much, but I have some with my friends.

 

            I agree with the message in this picture, because I think that the education is a law of all the people, no matter your social class, family, place that you live, etc. It's an abuse that businessmen take advantage of this. 

My expectations for this semester

Well, my expectations for this semester are very positive respect to my curses, I hope study hard for approve all my curses, but also I want to have fun with my friends, because the life not can be only study. And the last thing that I expect is can visit my family because I don't live with them, but I miss them very much.
